Geno Smith completed 19 of 29 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns in West Virginia's
31-17 win against Maryland. He started the game by completing his first 10 passes
for 173 yards and three TDs while helping the Mountaineers take a 28-0 lead into the
third quarter. Smith threw touchdown passes of 6, 5, 26 and 5 yards to remain
unbeaten as West Virginia's starting quarterback.
Bruce Irvin was the catalyst of a West Virginia defense that limited Maryland to -10
rushing yards and 217 net yards in the 31-17 win against the Terrapins.
Irvin had three
sacks, resulting in a loss of 22 yards, a pass breakup and a forced fumble to go
with four tackles from his defensive end position.
Irvin's three sacks were the most for a WVU player in a game since James Davis recorded the same number against Rutgers in 2001.
