Although incoming WVU offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen indicated on Wednesday that he wasn't ready to name assistant coaches yet, reports from Texas confirm that at least one rumored candidate will be joining his staff in Morgantown.

"I'm not too concerned with that right now," Holgorsen said when asked about Shannon Dawson and Bill Bedenbaugh, two coaches with ties to him that have been mentioned as possibilities for his staff at West Virginia. "I'm concerned with West Virginia and Oklahoma State winning their bowl games.

"I will talk to to coaches and evaluate what we have what we have and what we need," he continued on Wednesday. "On my side I want to talk to some people. You can't just hire your best friends. You have to take into account recruiting, geography, all of that."

Those comments may be true as a whole, but it looks as if Holgorsen has already zeroed in on at least one, and likely more, targets, as the Daily Sentinel of Nagodoches, Tex., is reporting that offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Shannon Dawson is leaving Stephen F. Austin for a position on West Virginia's offensive staff. Dawson, who has been SFA's offensive coordinator for three seasons, helped coach record-setting quarterback Jeremy Moses to two Southland Conference Player of the Year Awards, an All-America selection and a spot as a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which is presented to the outstanding player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Moses is the school's and conference's all-time passing leader and helped propel the Lumberjacks to back-to-back league titles.

Dawson's resume is almost as impressive as Holgorsen's, albeit on a smaller scale. Joining a team that was 0-11 in 2007, Dawson helped shape an offense that led the league in passing offense his first year, total and passing offense his second, then scoring offense, total offense and passing offense in 2010.

Dawson was a quarterback and wide receiver under Holgorsen at Wingate College, and held coaching positions at his alma mater as well as at Southeastern Louisiana, New Mexico State and Millsaps. At Millsaps, he oversaw an offense that won back-to-back league titles and earned a Division III playoff spot.

Dawson is expected to join Holgorsen at West Virginia on Jan. 1. Dawson would be a strong candidate to take over offensive coordinator duties once Holgorsen ascends to the head coaching job in 2012.
