The Chesapeake Bowl learned on Tuesday evening that West Virginia commitment Nick Kwiatkoski will…
Although he certainly had the talent to do so, Bethel Park High School's Kwiatkoski chose to follow a spring workout program (mixed in with a bit of downtime) to prepare himself for his first year at West Virginia. The talented two-way player, who is ticketed for a defensive spot with the Mountaineers, combined running and a program from WVU to get ready for his move to the Mountain State later this month. "I worked out some with our track team, and since March I've been following the program that WVU sent me," the hard-hitting defensive back said. "We've actually done a lot of those exercises and lifts here. Out coach Brad Metheny, is a West Virginia guy, so he's familiar with what they've done there." Kwiatkoski, who was forced to miss December's Chesapeake Bowl all-star game with a nagging back injury, also used the spring to strengthen that problem area. No surgery or procedure was required -- simply a regimen of stretching and strengthening exercises were employed. "My doctor gave me list of those to do, and I did them along with my other workouts," he explained. "It feels fine now. I don't have any pain, and it's all o.k." Kwiatkoski has also mixed in just the required amount of downtime to give himself a break, and he expects to hit the WVU campus with peak enthusiasm on June 26. "I'm actually on vacation right now, but I'm very excited to get down there," the Pittsburgh-area star said. "I've been enjoying this little bit of time off, but I'm ready to get there. I'm not sure who my roommate will be yet for the season, but I'll be talking to the coaches soon to get all that done. "I'm going to start out at bandit, but Coach Dunlap said he could see me growing into a linebacker during my career," he continued. "We'll have to see how that goes. I played running back and defensive back in high school, but I really like defense. I won't miss offense at all."
