Madsen on First

Award watch lists are beginning to be released by the various committees and conglomerates that pick the top players by position in college football, and a West Virginia senior who figures to be closely scrutinized this year is on one of the earliest to hit the street.

WVU center Joey Madsen, who is expected to contend for postseason honors in several categories, is one of 50 players on the Rimington Award Watch List. Madsen is one of four Big 12 linemen to make the initial list.

The Rimington Award uses four All-America teams to determine the winner of its trophy. Those include squads named by the American Football Coaches Association, the Walter Camp Foundation, The Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America.

The Center with the most first team votes will be determined the winner. If there is a tie with first team votes, then the Center with most second team votes will win. If there is still a tie, the winner will be determined by the Rimington Trophy committee.

The winner will be honored at Rimington Trophy Presentation banquet at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 12, 2013. WVU center Dan Mozes won the 2006 edition of the award.
