Late Addition

Every year, there are one or two "late" additions to football programs across the country, and it was West Virginia's turn to add one on Friday.

Following a visit to the West Virginia campus, Mainland (Fla.) defensive back Rick Rumph signed a letter of intent. He will be immediately eligible after earning a late qualifying test\GPA score.

Rumph, a 5-11 cornerback, earned all-county and Class 6A all-state honors at Mainland, but remained just short of qualifying standards throughout his senior season. Upon achieving that earlier this year, he visited West Virginia and made things official on Friday.

Rumph had six interceptions as a senior, and was named the MVP of his district championship game while earning a spot in the Central Florida all-star contest. Recommended Stories
