Dreamius Smith, who was also being courted by Oklahoma State, made his choice on Monday night. Through 11 games this year, Smith had recorded 984 yards on 120 carries and scored 17 times. His 8.2 yards per carry average leads a talented Butler backfield that has four players with 66 carries or more this season, and averages 226 yards per game on the ground. Butler currently stands at 11-0 with a Region VI championship in its pocket, and plays Iowa Western on Dec. 2 in the Graphic Edge Bowl.
Smith starred at Heights High School in Wichita, and committed to the homestate Kansas Jayhawks prior to his senior season. However, he instead went to Butler Community College, where he has been a standout as well, posting several 100+ yard rushing games on limited carries.
Smith is on track to graduate in December, and expects to be available for spring practice at West Virginia. The 5-11, 215-pounder is a solid mix of size and speed, and will be expected to compete for immediate playing time.
