Texas Releases 2013 Schedule

Texas Releases 2013 Schedule

Texas released its 2013 Big 12 slate on Tuesday, with few surprises.

Texas coach Mack Brown often jokes that he gets the Longhorns' last pick in terms of future schedules. Case in point: the Longhorns' murderer's row conference slate in 2012 that packaged four teams that won 10-plus games in 2011, all in a row.

But at least at first glance, the Longhorns' just-released 2013 schedule appears more palatable.

Home games are in all caps.

AUG. 31: New Mexico State

Sept. 7: at BYU

SEPT. 14: MISSISSIPPI

SEPT. 21: Kansas State*

Oct. 3 or 5: at Iowa State*

Oct. 12: vs. Oklahoma* (Dallas)

Oct. 26: at TCU*

NOV. 2: Kansas*

Nov. 9: at West Virginia*

NOV. 16: Oklahoma State*

NOV. 28: Texas Tech*

Dec. 7: at Baylor*

The Longhorns have a road trip to Iowa State that separates the Mississippi and Kansas State game from tougher challenges against Oklahoma in Dallas and at TCU. The interesting part here is the potential Thursday night game against the Cyclones. Then Texas hosts Kansas before traveling to West Virginia and taking on Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders will replace TCU as Texas's Thanksgiving game, and appear to be the first step toward what Brown and Texas AD Deloss Dodds have talked about in recent weeks: having Texas host a game every Thanksgiving with a variable opponent.

For the second time in the past three years, the Longhorns will close out at Baylor.
