Dunlap Not Retained

Multiple sources confirmed to BlueGoldNews.com on Saturday evening that West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen fired special teams coordinator/outside linebackers coach Steve Dunlap.

The move was first reported by Allan Taylor of WVMetroNews.com.

The decision to not retain Dunlap means WVU's coaching staff for 2013 will be comprised entirely of hires personally made by Holgorsen. Dunlap was brought back to Morgantown by Bill Stewart before Stewart's first season as head coach in 2008.

Dunlap is a former Mountaineer player and longtime assistant who served under Don Nehlen, Stewart and Holgorsen. He still ranks No. 10 on the school's list of career tackles made with 359 and holds records for total tackles in a season (190) and in a game (28).

He has been the defensive coordinator at WVU, Syracuse, North Carolina State and Marshall during his tenure as a coach.
