Add One For 2013

Jacky Marcellus

Florida wide receiver Jacky Marcellus was contemplating different options after undergoing knee surgery in January, but he set his course with the submission of his Letter of Intent on Friday.

When Jacky Marcellus was not announced as a member of West Virginia's Class of 2013 on the initial signing day of the period, it raised a few eyebrows. The Immokalee playmaker had long been committed to the Mountaineers, but recent knee surgery left him to consider his options.

"I though about grayshirting, because I wasn't sure how I would recover, and that was an option," he said after sending his LOI to WVU. "I talked with the coaches about it, and I ended up deciding thtat I didn't want to do it. The doctors told me that I should be able to rehab and recover, an I felt like enrolling [this fall] was the best thing for me. The coaches said that was fine, and so I have signed."

Marcellus thus becomes the 26th member of the Class of 2012, and is now turning his focus to the rehab process.

"I'm walking fine, and I'm working on straightening my knee out all the way. I'm making progress there. I've started working with weights; doing lunges with weights on my upper body, and I feel like I am moving ahead. I'm working with my doctor through all of this, and the schedule says I could be running by April."

While that tentative timetable is in place, Marcellus doesn't want to make any predictions as to when he can return to full action, or if he can contend this fall.

"I don't like to talk about things like that. I want to come up and show everyone what I can do," he said, preferring to let his actions and abilities speak for themselves.

Marcellus joins Shelton Gibson, Daikiel Shorts and Kevin White as members of this year's class. Another receiver, Ronald Carswell, is scheduled to complete his junior college coursework and enroll at West Virginia this summer.
