WVU senior Petra Zublasing won the second indivudal national title of her career on Friday when she outlasted seven other competitors in the 2013 NCAA smallbore finals.

Zublasing, a senior from Appiano Italy, added the smallbore crown to her 2012 air rifle individual championship. The win gives WVU a total of 21 individual national titless.

Zublasing was a bit off her normal scores during the initial 60 shots in the team competition. Her overall score of 589 -- 2.5 below her 2013 average -- put her in a tie for first going into the ten shot finals, but she was seeded second after Henri Junghanel of Kentucky, who also shot 589, edged her by one "inner 10".

Zublasing quickly took the lead over Junghanel by scoring 30.7 points on her first three shots, while the Wildcat could muster just 27.9. Zublasing then hung on, withstanding a closing rush from the UK marksman and Alaska's Ryan Anderson to win by just one-half point. Zublasing totalled 688.3 on her 70 shots, while Junghanel finished with 687.8.

WVU sophomore Thomas Kyanko, who qualified as an individual in the smallbore competition, also made it into the eight-person individual finals. He finished seventh with a score of 675.9.

Competition continues tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. with the team air rifle relays, which will decide the national championship. Five schools are within six points of each other going into the final day. Those will be followed by the individual air rifle finals, where Zublasing, if she qualifies, will attempt to defend her 2012 national championship.
