After leading the West Virginia University rifle team to its nation-best 15th NCAA title and sweeping the individual championships, Mountaineer senior Petra Zublasing has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week.

Zublasing was fantastic over the weekend at Ohio State’s Converse Hall and French Field House, as she lead the Mountaineers to a 4679 aggregate total and their first national title since 2009. The Appiano, Italy, native finished first in both disciplines, shooting 688.3 (589, 99.3) smallbore and 701.7 (598, 103.) air rifle, and pushed her career title mark to three. She is the first Mountaineer shooter to win an air rifle and smallbore title, and the first NCAA shooter to win both at one championships since Alaska-Fairbanks’ Matthew Emmons did so in 2001. Additionally, she is WVU’s first three-time NCAA champion since Greg Jones (wrestling) won a trio of titles in 2002, 2004 and 2005.

Following her fantastic weekend, Zublasing was named the CRCA Shooter of the Match. She is the third Mountaineer to win the award, and the first since 1997. She also earned NRA Air Rifle and Smallbore All-America honors. She concludes her Mountaineer career with five first-team awards.
