Versatile Junior Has Camp Impact

Good Counsel (Md.) cornerback Drew Ashley made his second trip to West Virginia last Sunday, and had the opportunity to showcase his abilities at WVU's third one-day camp of the summer.

"I loved WVU," the 5-foot-8, 160 pound speedster said. "I love their facilities. I felt like I impressed the coaches on both sides of the ball."

Playing both wide receiver and cornerback, Drew Ashley displayed his versatility and athleticism at both positions. Playing cornerback, he was able to shut down receivers, not allowing any caught balls. On the opposite side, he used his speed to beat other defensive backs during drills.

With his exceptional performance, several Mountaineer coaches took notice.

"They enjoyed me coming out and seeing what I can do," he said. "They were impressed with me on both sides of the ball. They told me they were going to come to some of my games this year and see me play. The interest level is high from both parties."

"I also had the opportunity to speak with Coach (Brian) Mitchell and (Lonnie) Galloway," Ashley continued. "I knew Coach Mitchell previously when he coached at ECU and would love to be coached by either."

The recruitment process is just now starting to heat up for the rising junior.

"Schools that are really interested in me are Wake Forest, Temple, ECU, Coastal Carolina, Maryland and West Virginia."

The Mountaineers, in particular, have been keeping a close eye on Ashley for a while now.

"They contacted me before when Coach Galloway visited my school. I've always been interested in WVU -- a high interest."

Ashley plans to continue his camp tour this summer. The schools he plans to visit, however, are unknown at this time. and FOXSportsNEXT will continue to update Ashley's recruitment going forward. Recommended Stories
