West Virginia's apparent mutually agreed upon decision to jettison forward Aaric Murray moves multiple issues to the forefront, the most pressing of which is the academic qualification of recruits Remi Debo and Jonathan Holton.

The power forwards, while not among the foremost signees like Devin Williams, Elijah Macon, Brandon Watkins and Nathan Adrian, could serve to add depth and better the options for head coach Bob Huggins while he continues to remake a program entering its second season in the Big 12. Williams, Watkins and Adrian- all forwards - are enrolled in school and playing in the Pittsburgh ProAm Summer League with guards Terry Henderson, Eron Harris and potential walk-ons.

Murray, meanwhile, has agreed to leave West Virginia, multiple sources say, after missing consecutive workouts and failing to appear for make-up sessions. Huggins issued a one-scentence statement in announcing the decision.

“We came to a mutual agreement that it would be in his best interest to finish his collegiate career somewhere else,” Huggins said.

Murray, who graduated in May from WVU, averaged 8.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last year as a junior. Murray, along with point guard Juwan Staten, was one of two key transfers taken by Huggins in an attempt to garner better experience and depth on a roster featuring significant turnover since the Mountaineers' Final Four run in 2010.

Debo, a 6-9, 225-pound junior college transfer from Casper College in Wyoming, is considered to have jumpshooting range similar to Murray, while Holton -6-9, 215 lbs. - is more of a pure interior player. The status of both players remains in doubt and could remain in limbo until the fall semsetser commences in August.
