Devin Williams was the West Virginia standout in Monday's head-to-head match-up in the Pittsburgh ProAm Summer League.

If Devin Williams was taken aback by the publicized news of Aaric Murray's dismissal from the Mountaineer basketball program, he didn't show it on Monday. The incoming freshman scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead The Lair to a 74-70 win over Oliverio's Peppers on Monday in a game featuring West Virginia players in head-to-head competition.

Williams hit just four of his 11 tries from the field, but converted 6-8 from the free throw line and was strong on the boards -- performances that West Virginia will need from him more than ever now that Murray's tumultuous career at WVU has come to an end. He'll be counted on to be an inside stalwart this year, and for WVU fans needing good news about this basketball program, his showing on Monday evening is at least a spark of light.

Williams teammates played secondary roles in the win, with Eron Harris scoring six points on 2-4 shooting from the field. Harris, like Williams suffered three turnovers and did not record an assist. Chase Connor and Richard Romeo did not score in the contest, but Romeo had a pair of rebounds and three assists while Connor added one rebound.

On the Peppers squad, Brandon Watkins and Nathan Adrian, who will also see more chances for playing time with Murray's departure, were solid. Watkins had eight points and six rebounds, while Adrian added nine points and five boards. Adrian was just 1-7 from three point range, while Watkins added an assist and a turnover to his box score. Terry Henderson also chipped in nine points on 4-9 shooting, but may have had the best floor game with three assists and two rebounds against just one turnover.

Regular season action in the league concludes on Wednesday, with The Lair playing South Hills Audi at 7:00 p.m., followed by Oliverio's Peppers at 8:00. Both games are scheduled for the Montour Sports Complex.

NOTES

Walk-on Brett Morris sustained an ankle injury in action last week and did not play on Monday. He's not expected to return to action in the league.

League playoffs are scheduled to occur on July 22-24.
