Breaking Ground

After months of speculation and plenty of curiosity as to when it would happen, the groundbreaking for the new West Virginia baseball stadium took place Thursday - something that marked a huge step in turning the dream of a new Mountaineer ballpark into a reality.

Among the numerous people involved in the event, which included several local and state politicians, was West Virginia president James P. Clements and athletic director Oliver Luck and head coach Randy Mazey.

Throughout their speeches at the groundbreaking ceremonies, both Luck and Clements praised the work of the representatives in the House of Delegates and the Senate to help make the new stadium happen.

"We took it into extra innings as you will remember," Luck said. "But you kept your calm, stayed steady at the plate and you knocked it out of the park. And we appreciate that very much."
