WVU Varsity Sports Update

West Virginia senior first baseman Ryan McBroom has been named the Varsity Sports Report Athlete of the Week following his performances in a series win over No. 11 Texas this past weekend.

McBroom led the WVU offense in his final series ever at Hawley Field. The Fredericksburg, Va., native batted .462 with two runs, six hits, one double and two RBIs. For the season, McBroom is hitting .357 and leads the team with seven homers and 42 RBIs.

McBroom and the Mountaineers currently sit at 26-17 overall on the season, including a 9-8 record in Big 12 Conference play.

This Week in Baseball

West Virginia will play four games this week, beginning with a game against Virginia on Tuesday, May 6 at 6 p.m., at Hunnicutt Field in Princeton … the Mountaineers will then travel to Kansas from May 9-11 for a Big 12 series … Friday's game will start at 7 p.m., Saturday's game will begin at 3 p.m. and Sunday's finale is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.

Last Week in Baseball

The Mountaineers won two-of-three games last weekend against No. 11 Texas in the final series at Hawley Field … the team finished with a .340 batting average, six extra-base hits and 14 RBIs … the pitching staff had a combined 2.67 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 27.0 innings.
