season with a long of 40 yards.
Made nine

as far out as 63 yards in practice … very
accurate on extra points, making 19 of 21 as

6-4 this past season … PrepStar all-regional.
“Andy has a lot of up side to him,” noted
Smith, who has been coaching at Boardman
for 25 years. “Dependable kickers are
unusual in high school, and we’ll really miss
him. He really was a big weapon for us, and
I’ll bet he becomes a good kicker for West
Virginia as well.”
Also received recruiting
interest from the Naval Academy, Wisconsin,
Pitt, North Carolina and a number of MAC
schools, but committed to WVU early in the
fall … an all-state second baseman and all-district
soccer player; earned nine varsity letters for the Spartans
Hit over .400 for the Boardman baseball team last spring and
may be interested in playing both football and baseball at WVU
… will study accounting at WVU … son of Robert and Teresa
Good.
What Rich Rodriguez says: “It’s kind of rare for a Division
school to sign kickers to scholarships initially, because you
never can be sure how they’ll react to pressure and kicking off
ground. We had him in camp, so we got to see up close what he
can do. We also liked the fact that he’s made three game-winning
kicks. One of the true tests of a kicker is to see how he’ll do when
the pressure is on, and Andy has been able to do that throughout
his high school career. We anticipate that Andy will be able to
contribute immediately.”
What Herb Hand says: “Andy has a very strong leg. Here is
the thing about recruiting kickers. When you recruit a kicker, the
best ones you don’t necessarily see but you hear them. When
you’re out on the field, it sounds like a gun shot, ‘Pow.’ You turn
around and say, ‘Who kicked that one?’ That’s what you want,
and that’s what the ball sounds like when Andy kicks it. He’s also
got good consistency and has some savvy and confidence. We
hope he can come up this summer and practice some with our
snappers and holders kicking off the turf so he can have a chance
to help us right away.”
