Posted Nov 20, 2003

Milan "Mike" Puskar, a longtime supporter of West Virginia University and its athletic department, made a huge commitment to WVU on Thursday morning.

Puskar, who has already endowed 18 athletic scholarships and made other large donations in the past, pledged $20 million dollars to West Virginia University on Thursday. The money will go toward both athletic and academic programs.

Of the total, $14.5 million will go to athletics, while the remaining $5.5 million will be used in the academic arena.

As of the year 2000, Puskar was responsible for gifts totaling more than $6.5 million to WVU. Recipients of these gifts included the School of Pharmacy, WVU Hospitals, the School of Medicine, the College of Business and Economics and the School of Journalism, as well as to the athletic department.

Puskar co-founded Mylan Laboratories, a pharmaceuticals company, and remains as the company's chairman of the board.
