Basketball Honor For Gansey

With WVU's team-oriented style, it's tough for Mountaineer players to earn conference honors, as such rewards are usually based on statistics.

However, one WVU player broke through that barrier today, as junior forwrd Mike Gansey was named the Big East conference co-player of the week.

Gansey led the Mountaineers to a pair of wins over ranked opponents. He had 19 points and seven rebounds in a 71-65 win over George Washington (#20 AP/22 USA Today/ESPN) and followed with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four steals in an 82-69 victory at NC State (#17/#15). For the two games, Gansey shot 60.9 percent from the floor and was 5-of-7 from 3-point range.
