Tyrone Sally reverted to the form Mountaineer fans have grown accustomed to against visiting Connecticut. The Virginia native again drove to the basket and fired shots with confidence, one of the few Mountaineers to do so. He finished with 16 points on 6-13 shooting, including three of seven from three-point range.
More importantly, Sally was fearless in challenging the big UConn front line, which leads the nation in blocked shots. Sally drove the ball to the basket on several occasions, and did not back down from players several inches taller than he.
Sally also defended well under the basket, helping hold big guns Charlie Villanueva and Josh Boone to just five total field goals in the contest. Sally finished with four rebounds, a block and a steal in 28 minutes of action.
