West Virginia University redshirt freshman Greg Jones has been named rookie of the year by the editors of Amateur Wrestling News magazine.

Jones, who finished the year with a record of 34-2, won the NCAA title at 174 pounds with a 12-5 victory over Princeton's Greg Parker.

Jones dominated his opponents throughout the season, and rang up a 62-27 scoring margin at the NCAA championships.

He was also named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) rookie of the year and wrestler of the year, in addition to being named the EWL tournament's outstanding wrestler.

Jones set the WVU record for wins by a freshman and had the seventh-most wins in a season in school history en route to becoming WVU's third national champion.
