Four of Five

Four of Five

Star wide receiver John Maddox was slowed by a cold this weekend, but still managed to get in his visit to West Virginia. The trip was the fourth on his list of five officials.

Maddox, who was accompanied by his parents on the trip, said he didn't learn anything new about the facilities at West Virginia, but that he did come away impressed with the people in the program.

"I liked the campus, and the people at the school were really nice," said Maddox, whose raw voice betrayed the fact that he still wasn't feeling in top form. "I liked the players and talking with them -- they seemed like people I can relate to. It was also a good chance to get my parents up there to see everything. I think they were impressed."

Maddox had already visited WVU earlier this year, when he made a stop on the Mountaineer campus while on a road trip to check out several schools prior to his senior season. Therefore, it wasn't a surprise that the didn't see much new on his official visit. And while he did have a good trip, he will stick to his plan to take all five of his official visits before making a decision. Four of those (West Virginia, Purdue, Michigan State and North Carolina) are already in the books, and the fifth, which is expected to be Penn State, is coming up shortly. The Nittany Lions have been making a late push for the Philadelphian, and there's not much doubt that the offer from the rejuvenated Lions is carrying some weight.

Although he declines to name a leader from his top five, Maddox did list several items that will weigh heavily in his decision.

"The perfect fit for me would be a school that plays as a team, with no individuals." Maddox said. "I want to be with players that want to work hard, and know the importance of working hard."

Maddox earned first team All-Catholic and All-City league honors as a senior, and played at both wide receiver and free safety. All of the schools on his list are recruiting him as a passcatcher, however.

Fellow Eastern Pennsylvanian Steve Slaton hosted Maddox on his vist. Maddox knew of the Conwell Egan star from his high school days, but had not met him prior to travelling to the WVU campus.
