Metcalfe 15th In 1500

Posted May 30, 2002

Sophomore distance runner Megan Metclafe finished 15th in the preliminaries of the NCAA women's 1500 meter championships Thursday night.

Metcalfe ran a 4:26.19, and missed qualifying for the finals by only three places. Arkansas' Christin Wurth won the prelim in a time of 4:16.80.

Metcalfe's time was almost seven seconds slower than the qualifying time of 4:19.77 that she ran on May 10.

Metcalfe's race, which was delayed as the entire meet was held up by rainshowers, concludes WVU's participation in the outdoor track and field championships. Earlier, Erin Nett placed 15th in the women's pole vault while Ian Collings was 18th in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase.
