Two More Semi-Finalists

Steve Slaton

Great team achievements are often accompanied by individual honors, so it's no surprise to see West Virginia players and coaches on the list of consideration for national awards.

The latest additions to that list are head coach Rich Rodriguez and running back Steve Slaton, who each made the semi-final list of 15 candidates for a pair of prestigious awards.

Slaton is one of the candidates for the Maxwell Award, presented to the Collegiate Player of the year, while Rodriguez is on the list for the George Munger Award as the College Coach of the year. This is the 70th year for the Maxwell Award and the 18th for the Munger.

The respective lists include a field of fifteen candidates for each award, as selected by the Maxwell Football Club Advisory Committee.

The announcement of the winners of the Maxwell Award will be made during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show that will be broadcast on ESPN on Thursday December 7, 2006. Three finalists for each award will be in attendance for the ESPN broadcast. The Maxwell Football Club will announce the winner of the 18th George Munger Award via a press release in December. The formal presentation of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club's Awards Dinner, to be held on Friday March 2, 2007 at the Harrah's Entertainment Complex in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
