While most of the nation's attention was on the NCAA Division 1A national championship basketball game, another drama was playing out around West Virginia's head basketball coach.

Following reports from Fox Sports and CBS Sportsline that indicated John Beilein had accepted the head coaching job at Michigan, West Virginia issued a terse two sentence statement.

"We cannot confirm the national media reports regarding Coach Beilein," Director of Athletics Ed Pastilong said in a prepared statement. "We will have no further comment at this time."

Of course, all sorts of meanings can be read into such a brief statement, and to try to divine which is an accurate reflection of the current situation would be an almost impossible task. To this point, no official statement has been made by Beilein or any Michigan representatives.

A third national story, this one run by ESPN and Fox and largely based on an AP article that ran late Monday evening, only confirmed that negotiations are underway between Michigan and Beilein.
