White as been recognized by the National Strength
and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as an All-American Strength and
Conditioning Athlete, while Jenkins snared a spot on the Wallace Award Watch List.
White, a Phillipsburg, Pa., native has been a two-year starter in
centerfield for head coach Greg Van Zant and was named a Freshman
All-American by Collegiate Baseball in 2006. The 5-10, 195 lb.,
centerfielder is currently majoring in elementary education.
White joins eight other WVU athletes who were recognized by the NSCA
this year. That list includes Mountaineer football players Keilen Dykes, Marc Magro and Abraham Jones, women’s tennis player Natalia Prinz, wrestler Matt Holsopple, Kelsey Fowler of women’s soccer and gymnasts Janáe Cox
and Jaime Gold.
The NSCA recognized 239 collegiate athletes from 165 schools this year
for their dedication and proficiency regarding strength training and
conditioning, with the Mountaineers earning eight of those spots – far above the national average of less than two per school. This is the 28th year of the NSCA recognition program.
Jenkins, meanwhile is one of 112 collegiate baseball players to be awarded a
spot on the Wallace Award watch list as announced by the College
Baseball Foundation on May 2.
The Wallace Award is an annual honor given to the nation’s top
collegiate baseball player. The 2007 award banquet will be televised
nationally by Fox Sports Network.
Jenkins, a senior hailing from Ridgeley, W.Va., has been a dependable
contributor to the Mountaineer team since he arrived in Morgantown in
2005. Jenkins owns the 10th longest hitting streak in NCAA baseball
history (38 games). He has also shattered six school records in his
three years suiting up in the Old Gold and Blue.
The left fielder’s .418 batting average leads the Mountaineers and is
good for second overall in the BIG EAST. Jenkins leads the conference
with 21 doubles and 122 total bases. He also ranks sixth in NCAA
baseball in doubles per game while his performance at the plate gives
him the 22nd best batting average in the country.
