WVU, WV Power Team Up For Game Watch

Posted Aug 7, 2007

West Virginia University fans who can’t make the trip to Huntington Sept. 8 for the WVU-Marshall football game can join fellow Mountaineers at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston to watch the game on the park’s Jumbotron.

WV Power, WVU Alumni Association, Mountaineer Parents Club, WVU and the Kanawha Valley Chapter of the Alumni Association are teaming up to host a “Pigskin” party for alumni and friends of WVU.

“This is a terrific opportunity to reach out to the nearly 8,000 loyal alumni living in the Kanawha Valley area and bring everyone together to support our football team,” said Steve Douglas, president and chief executive officer, WVU Alumni Association. “We are pleased to partner with WV Power to provide a venue for fans to bring their families to the park and enjoy this unique event for alumni, families and friends of West Virginia University.”

Gates will open at 10 a.m., and the first 1,500 fans will receive a special giveaway. Admission is free. Fans will have an opportunity to participate in games for prizes, including baskets filled with fun WVU items. In addition, visitors will be able to view video highlights of the Mountaineer Marching Band and Mountaineer football team on the Jumbotron.

Visitors can enjoy the Power Park’s stadium seating and purchase concessions at the event. The game will be televised on the Jumbotron with play-by-play from Tony Caridi on V100 radio. No outside drinks or food will be permitted inside the stadium.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Mountaineer fans to the park for the game watch,” said Ryan Gates, general manager, West Virginia Power. “This is a great opportunity for fans to rally together for their team, while at the same time enjoy the amenities of the park.”

The event also provides students and parents with a unique networking opportunity.

"This is a wonderful way for WVU families and students to meet, network, and be part of the unique Mountaineer fan experience,” said Sabrina Cave, executive director, Mountaineer Parents Club. “Our Kanawha County Club is our largest club, so we are pleased that parents and students will be able to be part of this fun event."
