Posted Aug 14, 2007

A program-record 10 members of the 2007 West Virginia University gymnastics team were honored by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) as scholar-athletes for the 2006-07 year.

The previous gymnastics’ team record was nine honorees in 2006 after the 2005 squad had a then-school record seven honored.

Senior Janáe Cox, a third team ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-America, posted a 4.0 in elementary education and was one of four seniors named. The other three seniors awarded from the 2007 team were Amie Bouchier (sports management), Aimee Brown (criminology) and Cheryl Goldenfield (sports management).

Jaime Gold (exercise physiology), Rachel Hardin (advertising), Margaret Ann Moore (elementary education) and Kara Weaver (exercise physiology) were selected from the junior class. Sophomore Heather Izer (speech pathology) and freshman Kiersten Spoerke (mechanical engineering) were the final two WVU gymnasts who qualified.

The Mountaineers, as a team, compiled a 3.355 grade point average for the 2006-07 school year, good for No. 22 in the nation.
