In a surprise to no one, WVU running back Avon Cobourne has been selected as the Big East Conference offensive player of the week.

Cobourne rushed for a Mountaineer Field record 260 yards in West Virgina's 37-17 victory over East Carolina. The senior running back averaged 8.7 yards on 30 carries, scoring two touchdowns. The yardage total was the fourth-best in Big East history and the second-highest in WVU annals, behind Kerry Marbury's 291 yards.

Cobourne tallied 210 of the yards in the first half. It was the 21st 100-yard game in his career, tying the conference and school records of WVU's Amos Zereoue.

Cobourne also became the Big East career rusing leader in the contest with 3,981 yards. He has 532 rushing yards in his last three games.

Avon's performance vaulted him to the top of the national rushing charts with an average of 159.5 yards per game. His performance, along with that of teammate Quincy Wilson, propelled WVU to the number one spot in team rushing, with an average of 345.5 yards per contest.
