WVU will now have honorary game captains who will lead the team
onto the field during each home game. The East Carolina honorary
captains are Rich Braham, Jerry Holmes and Undra Johnson.
Braham, a former walk-on turned All-America offensive lineman,
made 37 starts at left tackle for WVU from 1990-93. A Morgantown native,
Braham went on to play 13 seasons with NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals. He is
being inducted into WVU’s 17th Hall of Fame class this weekend.
Johnson, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native, was a running back for
the Mountaineers from 1985-88 and helped the Mountaineers to its then,
first-ever undefeated regular season in school history in 1988. He
rushed for 2,211 yards with 21 touchdowns during his career. He posted
career-highs of 206 yards on 36 carries in WVU’s 23-10 victory over
Temple in 1986.
Holmes, a Newport News, Va., native, was a standout defensive
back for two seasons on WVU’s 1978 and 1979 football teams. He totaled
175 tackles and captained the Mountaineers his senior season. A member
of WVU’s all-1970s team, Holmes played 13 seasons in the NFL and USFL
and is currently the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at
Hampton. He is being inducted into WVU’s 17th Hall of Fame class this
weekend.
