Double Dip

Although some West Virginia fans were moaning about perceived poor play in its 38-31 win over Louisville, the Big East conference did not agree.

That's because the league selected Patrick White and Eric Wicks as its offensive and defensive players of the week for their performances against the Cardinals.

White a junior quarterback from Daphne, Ala., accounted for 328 yards of total offense and scored on a 50-yard touchdown run with 1:36 left in the fourth quarter to break a 31-31 tie and give West Virginia the win. He rushed for a game-high 147 yards and 24 carries and completed 16 of 25 passes for 181 yards and two TDs.

Defensively, senior Eric Wicks made two huge plays to help propel the Mountaineers to the win. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native figured in two second-half takeaways, scoring a touchdown on a 44-yard fumble return in the third quarter and snaring a key fourth-quarter interception. He added three tackles and a pass breakup as the Mountaineers limited the Cardinals to just three third-down conversions on 13 attempts.
