BCS Fiesta

In a bit of a surprise, West Virginia has been selected to face Oklahoma in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

While many observers believed that the Mountaineers would face Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl, a surprise move put the Mountaineers in the Fiesta against the Sooners. The game is on Jan. 2, 2008 at 7:30 PM Eastern in the domed University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

West Virginia took an estimated 20,000 fans to Tempe in 1988 when WVU faced Notre Dame for the national title, but expectations for travel this time are far less due to the Mountaineers' disappointing end to the season. That game was held in Sun Devil Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University.

BlueGoldNews.com will have more from head coach Rich Rodriguez and BCS staffers following a conference call later this evening.
