Wicks (6-1, 205 lbs., 4.5), a
wide receiver/defensive back from
Perry Academy in Pittsburgh, is West Virginia's latest football verbal. One
of Wicks’ high school teammates,
Vaughn Rivers (5-10, 170 lbs., 4.4),
has also committed.
Both Wicks and Rivers visited WVU for last weekend's win over Syracuse.
“Eric has a tremendous upside,”
Perry head coach Bill Gallagher
recently told the Pittsburgh
Tribune-Review. “He’s big, strong
and fast and loves the game of
football. People think he’s just
athletic, but he’s a hitter, a warrior.”
A big-play wide receiver, Wicks
averaged 32.0 yards per catch as
a sophomore and junior for the
Highlanders, and he also produced
a touchdown every other time he
touched the football.
Wicks, who
has a 38-inch vertical leap, also is
a very good safety, and he’s a big
part of the Perry defense which
has not been scored upon through
the first five games this seasons.
The Highlanders have outscored
their opposition 251-0 in that time,
and they have a 27-game regular season winning streak which
stretches back to 2000.
