Pennsylvania Quarterback Chooses WVU

Posted Nov 7, 2002

West Virginia has received a commitment from Bethlehem Catholic's Adam Bednarik.

One of the top quarterbacks in Pennsylvania has committed to WVU.

Adam Bednarik, a relative of NFL Hall of Famer Chuck "Concrete Charlie" Bednarik, made his choice after a pair of visits to the Mountaineer campus.

Bednarik started at linebacker and tight end during his first 1 1/2 seasons at Becahi, which is how locals in the Lehigh Valley refer to Bethlehem Catholic. Bednarik moved to quarterback midway through the season last year and led Becahi to the state quarterfinals, throwing for over 1500 yards in 6 games.

"He is a field general," Becahi head coach Frank Sonon told the Allentown Morning Call. "The kids believe in him, rally behind him, and they know that if they give him enough of an opportunity, good things are going to happen."

Bednarik is a 3-year starter on both the football and basketball teams as well.

Two of Bednarik's coaches played for West Virginia. Former WVU quarterback Dan Kendra is the offensive coordinator, while former WVU running back and teammate Artie Owens is an offensive assistant.
