Former WVU consensus All-American center Dan Mozes was selected as the recipient of the Rimington Trophy Award in 2006. Dent, a second-team All-Big East performer last year, started all 13 games at the center position and helped pave the way for the Mountaineer offense to produce two 1,000-yard rushers. The offense averaged 6.2 yards a carry, 297.2 yards a game rushing and 456.2 in total offense. The Mountaineers ranked No. 3 nationally in rushing offense, tied for No. 5 for fewest sacks allowed (13), No. 9 in scoring offense and No. 15 in total offense. Dent finished with 35 knockdowns, including four against East Carolina, Louisville and Connecticut. The Mountaineers finished 11-2 last season, won the BIG EAST Conference championship, defeated No. 3 Oklahoma, 48-28, in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and finished the season No. 6 in both polls. This year’s list includes two finalists from the 2007 Watch List, as well as the 2007 winner of the Rimington Trophy, Arkansas' Jonathan Luigs. The Trophy has not had a repeat winner in its history. In all, there are 42 players on the Watch List. A total of seven players represent the Big-12 Conference. The PAC-10 Conference is represented by six players, while the ACC, Big East and SEC have five players each on the Watch List.
