Kuhn First WVU Pick

Posted Jun 6, 2008

Shortstop Tyler Kuhn became West Virginia's first pick in the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft.

Kuhn, a senior, was the 450th pick overall by the White Sox. His pick came in the fifteenth round of the draft. Following his junior season, he was drafted by Cleveland in the 34th round, but returned to West Virginia for his senior season. That decision appears to have worked out well, as he improved his draft position by almost 20 rounds .

Kuhn is the second shortstop, and just the third infielder overall, to be take by the White Sox in their 17 players selected so far. Chicago's top pick, number eight overall in the draft, was University of Georgia junior James Beckham. Kuhn could likely play second base as well as he begins his professional career.

As a senior, Kuhn set WVU's single season record for hits in a season with 101, and batted .424 on the year. An accomplished hitter, healso holds WVU career records for games played, RBIs, triples and runs scored. He did not miss a game in his four years at West Virginia.
