West Virginia’s Oct. 3 men’s
soccer match at perennial power Connecticut will be televised by the Fox
Soccer Channel. The match, which will kick off at 8 p.m. ET, will be one of four televised matches in which the Mountaineers
will compete this season.
The broadcast marks the second consecutive season that West Virginia
will be highlighted in the Fox Soccer Channel Men’s College Match of
the Week.
"Playing on television is certainly great exposure for our program,”
Head Coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “And when you have an opportunity to
do it on national television, on the No. 1 soccer channel in the United
States, it is fantastic for our student-athletes, West Virginia
University and all of college soccer."
The 2007 televised Mountaineers vs. Huskies matchup was a battle of Big East powers. At the time, Connecticut was No. 1 in the nation, according
to the NSCAA/adidas poll, and West Virginia was ranked 20th. After 52
minutes of scoreless play, then-sophomore Jason Bristol headed in the
lone goal of the game at 52:35 to give West Virginia the win.
Other televised games featuring the Mountaineers include matches
against: Duquesne on Aug. 31, at 2 p.m., Ohio State on Oct. 15, at 8
p.m., and Maryland on Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. Each of the three games at Dick
Dlesk Soccer Stadium will be televised on PBS stations in West Virginia.
WVU opens its season at home with an exhibition match against Virginia
on Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m. The Mountaineers’ regular-season commences on
Aug. 29 at 7 p.m., against Lafayette, one of two games for WVU in the
West Virginia University Classic.
