Women’s soccer
player Erica Henderson has been
named West Virginia University’s
athlete of the week for her play over
the weekend in leading WVU to a pair
of victories.
Henderson, a redshirt
freshman, stole the show in her
first collegiate start (Sept. 18) as
14th-ranked West Virginia posted a
4-0 shutout against Pitt last week.
Henderson, who entered the game with three shots
on the season, put WVU on top 1-0 seven minutes
into the Big East opener for both teams. The
Rochester, N.Y., native finished a corner kick started
by junior Nicole Mailloux and a flick from junior
Carolyn Blank. It was the first shot of the night for
either team.
At 21:41, Henderson scored her second goal
of the match on a header from 13 yards out on a
cross by senior Lisa DuCote.
Three West Virginia University women’s soccer players were honored for their play last week. Senior Greer Barnes was named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week and redshirt freshman Erica Henderson was named Big East Rookie of the Week. Junior Carolyn Blank earned a spot on the 11-player TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week.

The Mountaineers have a two-week hiatus before the team competes in the Paul Short Invitational held in
Bethlehem, Pa., on Oct. 3. … the race is set to begin at 2 p.m.

Rutgers, ranked 20th at the time in Soccer America , WVU again took its opponent to double overtime, tying Rutgers,
