West Virginia overmatched independent Longwood in an uninspiring 86-54 win Thursday night inside the WVU Coliseum.

Leading the way again for the Mountaineers was freshman point guard Darryl Bryant. "Truck" came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points, dish out three assist and collect five rebounds in the winning effort.

Bryant brought the Coliseum crowd to its feet over the final 1:11 of the first half, nailing a 3, collecting a steal which led to a one-handed jam at the other end and assisting on a 3 by senior guard Alex Ruoff.

Through the season's first two games, Bryant has unquestionably been West Virginia's most productive player.

NET BURNERS

  • West Virginia earned several trips to the foul line, but left at least a handful of points on the floor by not converting consistently from the charity stripe. For the game, the Moutnaineers were just 29-44 from the line.

  • The Mountaineers also had a tough time hanging onto the basketball for much of the night. West Virginia turned it over 23 times, with junior forward Da'Sean Butler the guilty party on five of those turnovers. Needless to say, those numbers will not result in many wins once the schedule heats up over the coming weeks.

  • One area in which the Mountaineers dominated was the paint. West Virginia outscored the Lancers by a count of 32-16 in the paint, and also got 16 second-chance points off of 19 offensive rebounds.
