reached the quarterfinals of the
championship bracket after he posted three victories
at 174 pounds. A No. 3 seed, Brenner earned a first-round
bye. In the second round, he defeated Pitt’s
Karl DeCiantis, 4-2, and then went on to earn a 10-3
decision against Arizona State’s Eric Starks. In the
quarterfinals, he wrestled No. 11 seed Travis Rutt of
Wisconsin and walked away with a 5-2 decision.
Brenner fell in the semifinals to No. 2 seed
Brandon Browne of Nebraska, but defeated New
Mexico Highland’s Jesse Feinsad, 3-2, in the
consolation semifinals.
Sophomore track star Chelsea Carrier qualified for the
BIG EAST Indoor Championships in two events to kick off
the indoor track season.

West Virginia went 2-0 last week with victories over Mercyhurst, 88-38, and Duquesne, 59-41, both at the
WVU Coliseum … fueled by a career-best 27 points and 10 rebounds from sophomore guard Sarah Miles, WVU cruised
past Mercyhurst, 88-38, In the first-ever meeting between the two squads it was WVU’s third-consecutive
victory over a first-time opponent … Miles’ line highlighted an impressive offensive night for the Mountaineers, as she
finished 12 for 17 from the field and 3 for 6 from the free throw line in her first career double-double game … Three
Mountaineers finished with double-digit scoring, as Liz Repella added 16 points, including a 7-for-10 showing from
the charity stripe, and Dominique Dixon tossed in 11 points off the bench with a 4-for-5 effort from the field. Additionally,
Ashley Powell matched a career best assist total, passing out 11 in 37 minutes of play … WVU finished the
game shooting 51.5 percent from the field, no doubt aided by its 48 in-paint points and 25 bench points. The Mountaineers
also controlled the glass, out-rebounding Mercyhurst 49-26, including 17 defensive rebounds, which limited
Mercyhurst to only four points off the second-chance effort … against Duquesne, netted 21 points and 12 rebounds
to push the West Virginia University women’s basketball team (7-1) to a 59-41 victory over Duquesne (6-3) this afternoon
at the WVU Coliseum. The victory is the team’s sixth-straight … the Mountaineer defense troubled the Dukes
throughout the game, holding Duquesne to 25.9% from the field and 1-20 (5.0%) from the 3-point line. The visitors’
41 points is the lowest point-total in the series’ 40 games, in which WVU no leads 33-7 … Repella finished 7-13 from
the field and 3-5 from the 3-point line. She also grabbed eight defensive boards and four offensive rebounds for her
fourth double-double of the season … the Steubenville, Ohio, native has scored 20 or more points three times this
season. Repella completed her line with two blocks and one steal in 36 minutes of play … senior Takisha Granberry
also netted her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds … Granberry was particularly
strong on the defensive glass, grabbing 10 boards off of the Dukes’ miscues. … the Charlotte, N.C., native also recorded
three assists, two steals and one block in 34 minutes.

The men’s and women’s team traveled to Athens, Ga., to participate in the Georgia Invitational ... the men
finished with 383 points, while the women gathered 229 points despite not be able to attend day three finals because

The Mountaineers competed in the 27th annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 5-6 … the
Mountaineers placed 23rd out of 44 teams at the Invitational … fifth-year seniors Kurt Brenner (174) and Dustin
Rogers (HWT) each placed in their respective weight classes … Brenner, a No. 3 seed at 174 pounds, took fourth
place in the consolation bracket, while Rogers, a No. 5 seed at heavyweight, took seventh place in the consolation
