White, also the team’s offensive player of the year award
recipient, finished the regular season with 919 yards rushing and 1,510
yards passing. He rushed for eight touchdowns and passed for 18 to total
26 touchdowns on the season. White set 16 WVU, Big East and NCAA records
during his career, including the top rushing quarterback in NCAA history
with 4,425 yards. He is responsible for 100 touchdowns in his career,
tops in the Big East and has registered more than 10,000 yards in total
offense, the first player in Big East history to accomplish that feat.
The defensive player of the year was Mortty Ivy. He led the
defense this season with 86 tackles, including 40 solo stops, assisted
on a sack and had six tackles for loss. He tied for the team lead with
three interceptions, had five pass breakups and returned a fumble. Ivy
had double-figure tackle games against Colorado (11) and Connecticut (10).
The Scott Shirley Award for Special Teams Excellence went to Pat McAfee for the third-straight season. He was named a Walter Camp
Football Foundation second team All-American, a semifinalist for the Lou
Groza Award and a finalist for the Ray Guy Award. McAfee set the WVU
all-time kick scoring and overall scoring records this season, scoring
377 points for his career. He also is the No. 1 leader in the Big East
for career extra points made with 205.

West Virginia finished with an 8-4 record and tied for second
place in the Big East Conference with a 5-2 mark. The Mountaineers will
play North Carolina (8-4) in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, N.C.
