West Virginia University guard Joe Mazzulla, who has not seen action since the Davidson game on Dec. 9, will undergo season-ending surgery on his ailing left shoulder later this week.

“Obviously, Joe still has pain in his shoulder and hasn’t shown much improvement,” says head coach Bob Huggins. “Surgery is the best option at this point, and he can spend the rest of the season and summer getting ready for next year.”

Mazzulla, a junior from Johnston, R.I., played in seven games this season, starting each one of those contests. He averaged 5.6 points, 3.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game. Mazzulla had a season-high 13 points and dished out six assists in the win over Iowa.

The junior has been clearly favoring his left arm while sitting out, being careful not to raise it or bump his shoulder.
