Cardinals QB Situation Still Unclear

Quarterback Kurt Warner said he felt better Monday, a day after suffering concussion-like symptoms against the Rams. Warner was taken down on a pass play, hitting the front of his helmet on the turf. He stayed in the game for six more plays but left shortly before the first half ended. Coach Ken Whisenhunt is optimistic that Warner will play this week, but that's not a given.

Kurt Warner will undergo neurological tests this week. If he passes those and has no symptoms for a couple of days, he likely will be cleared to play against the Titans.

In an interview with the Associated Press a few weeks ago, Warner said he had suffered four concussions in his life but only one in the NFL.

That came when he was with the Rams in 2003.

Warner said Monday that while he felt better, he wasn't 100 percent yet. He never lost consciousness on the play, and he had no problems with his memory.

The Cardinals, however, are going to be cautious, and there's no reason to rush Warner back into action.

The Cardinals have a three-game lead in the NFC West, and it might behoove them in the long term to have Matt Leinart play a full game Sunday against the Titans.

Arizona needs to find out about Leinart, and Sunday's game could be a good barometer of his development.

PLAYER/PERSONNEL NOTES

--QB Kurt Warner likely will be a question mark for Sunday's game until at least later in the week. He suffered a head injury against St. Louis and will need to pass neurological tests before being cleared.

--QB Matt Leinart hasn't been impressive in three extended appearances this season. Several of his throws have been high, and he's looked tentative at times.

--RB Tim Hightower went over 100 yards rushing last week for the second time in his career. Both of those games came against the Rams.

--RB Beanie Wells is getting at least half the carries in a game and has looked explosive. He has had trouble hanging onto the ball, however, and he lost a fumble last week.

--RB Jason Wright won't play more than a handful of snaps in any game. He'll participate in some obvious passing situations, but that's about it.

--WR Larry Fitzgerald isn't making catches downfield, but he has nine touchdown receptions, three short of his career high, set last season. An improving run game could mean more single coverage on Fitzgerald.

--WR Anquan Boldin has gained more than 100 yards receiving in each of the past two games. He's made some great catches, but he hasn't broken a big run yet. Boldin appears to be healthy after suffering a sprained ankle more than a month ago.

--WR Steve Breaston is healthy but didn't catch a pass last week. The Cardinals didn't throw to him. The No. 3 receiver, Breaston hasn't been playing as much because the Cardinals have used more two tight end formations lately.

--WR Early Doucet has passed Jerheme Urban for the No. 4 job. Doucet caught an important pass late in the game last week and has shown some ability as of late.

--TE Ben Patrick returned last week after missing a game because a knee injury. Patrick won't catch many passes, but he's an effective target in the red zone.

--TE Anthony Becht is the best blocking tight end on the club, but he's had trouble hanging onto the ball. He fumbled last week in St. Louis.

--K Neil Rackers has been reliable this season, missing only one field goal.

--SS Adrian Wilson needs one sack to become the 10th player in NFL history to have 20 sacks and 20 interceptions over his career. Wilson has 21 interceptions.

--OLB Chike Okeafor has missed the past two games with a back problem. Coaches are optimistic he will play Sunday in Tennessee.

--CB Bryant McFadden likely will be questionable for Sunday's game after suffering a bruised knee against the Rams. His replacement, Michael Adams, is only 5-foot-8, but he's fiercely competitive and an excellent special teams player.

--LB Monty Beisel, a former Cardinal who played three games with the Chiefs earlier this season, re-signed with Arizona. The Cardinals released TE Dominique Byrd.
