Winners of the Red Brown cup, which honors a wVU athlete for athletic, academic and civic achievement, are selected by the WVU Athletic Council.
Smith, captain of the volleyball team, will graduate next week with a perfect 4.0 average in biology. She led WVU in blocks and kills this season, earning third team Academic All-America honors. A BIG EAST scholar-athlete, the Auburn, Mich., native has numerous campus honors: Golden Key, Mortar Board, Beta Beta Beta, Alpha Epsilon Delta, Chimes, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the WVU Honors Program. She has been active as a health services volunteer at area hospitals and care facilities.
The award is in memory of Robert "Red" Brown, former WVU coach and athletic director.
