Biography:
Waddell arrives as one of the fastest rookies in the NFL and one of the top return men selected in April’s draft. He is expected to use his exceptional speed (4.37-second 40-yard dash) to contribute immediately on special teams and battle for kickoff and punt return duties, as well as provide depth in the secondary. Waddell played in 44 career games at North Carolina with 36 starts at cornerback, finishing with 152 tackles, 36 passes defensed, three interceptions for 49 yards and three blocked kicks. As a returner, he added 329 yards and one touchdown on 32 punt returns (10.3 avg) and 580 yards and one touchdown on 19 kickoff returns (30.5 avg). In pre-draft workouts, he bench pressed 225 pounds 14 times and recorded a 37.5-inch vertical jump. He was drafted with the team’s second pick of the fourth round (124th overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft.
